Who Said It: Mitt Romney or Jesus Christ?

1. “The multiculturalism movement must be unmasked for the fraud it is.  There are superior cultures, and ours is one of them.”

2. “Middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less.”

3. “[My wife] dives a couple of Cadillacs.”

4. “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.”

5. “There are 47 percent . . . who are dependent upon the government, who believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. . . .  My job is not to worry about those people.  I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility for their lives.”

6. “As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’  Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.  Freely you have received, freely give.”

7. “I’m not concerned about the very poor.  We have a safety net there.”

8. “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.  I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”

9. “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

10. “The law requires us to put out a full financial disclosure.  That I’ve done.  And then, in addition to that, I’ve already put out one year of tax returns.  . . .  Those are the two years that people are going to have.  And that’s all that’s necessarily for people to understand something about my finances.”

11. “No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate.”

12. “It is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”

13. “I have some friends who are NASCAR team owners.”

14. “I love this state.  The trees are the right height.”

On a Friday night, around 8:30, rather than go out like I did as a young man, I stayed in and balanced my checkbook while listening to Alanis Morrissette’s Jagged Little Pill Acoustic album. It’s like the original, electric album, but slower for the easy-listening set.

When I was in college, Jagged Little Pill was just an electric album, and I went out on Friday nights. It was a time in my life when I was trying to figure out what kind of adult I wanted to become. That adult now balances his checkbook on Friday nights, listening to the music of his college days remade to sound more adult.

Like rain on your wedding day.
